Is There Any Difference Between Fiber Adapter ST And FC And LC?

Fiber adapter is the fiber optic active connector alignment part. Optical fiber connector is the most used optical passive device in optical fiber communication system. Most optical fiber connectors are composed of three parts: two optical fiber connectors and a coupler. Two optical fiber connectors are installed at the ends of two optical fibers. The coupler serves to align the casing. In addition, the coupler is equipped with metal or non-metal flanges, so as to facilitate the installation and fixation of the connector.

The two ends of the optical fiber adapter can be plugged into optical fiber connectors of different interface types to realize conversion between different interfaces such as FC, SC, ST, LC, MTRJ, MPO, and E2000. It is widely used in optical fiber distribution frames (ODF), optical fiber communication equipment, instruments, etc., with excellent performance and stability. Some optical fiber adapters are also called optical fiber connectors, which are actually two different products and you can find more detailed information on the fiber optic adapter supplier Welink.

FC Fiber Adapter

The external strengthening mode is metal sleeve, fastening mode is turnbuckle. The FC connector uses a ceramic pin for the butt end. This kind of connector has the advantages of simple structure, convenient operation and easy fabrication. However, the optical fiber end is sensitive to fine dust and easy to generate Fresnel reflection, so it is difficult to improve the return loss performance.

Later, this type of connector was improved by using a PC with a spherical butt end, but the external structure was not changed, which greatly improved the insertion loss and return loss performance.

SC Fiber Adapter

The shell is rectangular, and the structure size of the pin and the coupling sleeve is exactly the same as that of the FC type. PC or APC grinding mode is used for the end face of the pin. The fastening mode is the plug and pull pin latch type, without rotation.

Equipped with metal shrapnel, easy to cover the use. This kind of connector has low price, convenient insertion and removal operation, small fluctuation of intervention loss, high compressive strength and high installation density.

ST Fiber Adapter

For the key buckle type locking structure, to ensure accurate alignment when connecting, with strong tensile strength, metal key positioning, improve the repeatability and durability of the adapter, the use of precision ceramic or copper sleeve, to ensure long-term stability of mechanical and optical properties.

Rectangular structure, easy to install and use tapping riveting.

LC Optical Fiber Adapter

It is made of modular jack (RJ) latch mechanism which is easy to operate. The small size of the pin and sleeve improves the density of the optical connector in the optical fiber distribution frame. Precision ceramic sleeve ensures long-term stable mechanical and optical properties.
